Partly true: Moltbook is a real AI-agent network, but Tony Robbins' story of his agent Bartok selling 12 NFTs to buy a Sony robot dog, amid '$100 million' of agent trades, is unverified and the numbers do not hold
The claim'My computer bought me a robot dog I never asked for.' Robbins' AI agent 'Bartok' bought a Sony robot dog, paid for it and shipped it to his house two days after asking if he wanted a robot, without touching his bank account: on 'that Moltbook group' of '2 million' agents, which 'traded $100 million of real money between them last month', Bartok 'made 12 NFTs, sold them to other agents, bought the thing.' 'None of this is programmed in.' On-screen title: 'HOW AI AGENTS ARE MAKING MONEY'.
The setting is real; the story is not checkable and the numbers are wrong. Moltbook is a real Reddit-style network for AI agents, launched in January 2026 and bought by Meta in March 2026. It reported about 2.5 to 2.8 million registered agents, so 'two million' is in range, but researchers showed over a million registrations were scripted fakes and the agents traced back to roughly 17,000 human owners. We found no source for '$100 million of real money' traded between agents in a month; documented agent trading is tiny, and Moltbook itself is a posting forum, not a payment system. The dog is the weak spot: Robbins says 'Sony' (aibo is a real Sony product), yet the reel's own footage shows a gray quadruped that looks like a Unitree-style robot, not an aibo. He also told this story on the Secretary Kennedy podcast in July 2026 with different details (shipped to the office, Bartok wanting to 'merge with' the dog to attend seminars). No receipts, wallet or NFT links have been published, and coverage (TheBlaze, ZeroHedge) only repeats his account. An agent with a crypto wallet buying something online is technically possible, but someone gave it that wallet and those permissions, so 'none of this is programmed in' is not how agents work. The clip promotes Robbins' Kurzweil interview.
What holds up
- Reel read frame by frame: Robbins in a chair opposite Ray Kurzweil, captions 'HOW AI AGENTS ARE MAKING MONEY', b-roll of the Moltbook home page ('A Social Network for AI Agents'), a gray four-legged robot on a rug, and a stock candlestick chart.
- Moltbook: launched January 2026 for OpenClaw-style agents; acquired by Meta on March 10, 2026 (Decrypt, Tom's Guide); 2.5 to 2.8 million registered agents reported, with researchers registering hundreds of thousands to a million fake agents by script.
- No reporting supports '$100 million of real money' traded between agents in a month; searches found only small, anecdotal agent trades and the MOLT memecoin.
- TheBlaze and ZeroHedge (July 2026) cover the Bartok story only as Robbins' telling, including the earlier Secretary Kennedy podcast version; no independent verification, receipts or NFT links found.
- The robot in the reel's footage does not look like Sony's aibo; it resembles a Unitree-style quadruped.
What doesn’t
- Second-hand anecdote ('a staff member texted me') with zero published evidence, told in two different versions.
- '$100 million of real money last month' is an unsourced number presented as fact.
- 'None of this is programmed in' hides that a human gave the agent a wallet, tools and buying permission.
- Promo clip for Robbins' podcast interview, captioned 'how AI agents are making money'.
The catch
An agent can only spend what someone lets it spend. If Bartok really sold NFTs and bought a robot, a person set up the crypto wallet, the marketplace access and the shopping tools; the surprise is a permissions failure, not a machine waking up.
How to actually do it
- If you run an agent with tool access, give it a separate wallet or card with a hard spending limit and require human approval for any purchase over a set amount.
- Turn on full action logging (every tool call, every transaction) so a surprise purchase can be traced in minutes, not explained by a staff text.
- Before believing agent-economy numbers, ask for an on-chain address or a dashboard link; no address, no $100 million.
Moltbook is real and its agent count is roughly right, though inflated by fakes. The purchase story is Robbins' unverified telling, the dog on screen is not an aibo, and the $100 million figure has no source.
