The product is real. Stanley Studio (studio.getstanley.ai) is a browser video editor with a chat agent, built by Stan, the creator-storefront company (getstanley.ai reads "Part of Stan Store"; the Product Hunt listing names makers Daniel Park, Justin Badua and Oliver Chen as "the team behind Stan", 202 upvotes, launched roughly July 2026). Its pricing page says Free: $0, unlimited projects and exports, "$50 in AI credits to start", no card; Pro: $49/month for "$1,000 in AI credits every month". So the comment war ("Not free" vs "This free") has an answer the reel never gives: free until the $50 of credits run out; the site never says what one edit costs. "In minutes" matches the vendor's own copy and is plausible for cuts, captions and music; whether the cut is good is never shown, since the finished video is not played. The affiliation inference holds: the poster's Slack tab reads "Oliver Chen (DM)", the name of a listed maker, and a Notion tab reads "Stanley Studio - Fiona". Stanley also runs a Partner Program giving every Stan product free ("$249/month value") for a bio link and 10 referrals a month. The caption discloses nothing. "Editors are cooked" fails the labor data: BLS projects film and video editors and camera operators up 3 percent 2025 to 2035, 72,000 jobs, median $75,100.
What holds up
- Stanley Studio exists at studio.getstanley.ai, made by Stan (Stan Store); Product Hunt listing shows makers Daniel Park, Justin Badua, Oliver Chen and 202 upvotes.
- Free tier is genuine per the vendor page: $0, unlimited projects, exports, no credit card, $50 in starting AI credits; Pro is $49/month for $1,000 in monthly credits.
- The agent operations shown on screen (cuts, captions, b-roll, zoom, SFX, music) all appear on the vendor's own feature list, and "first cut in minutes" is the vendor's claim too.
What doesn't
- 'Never' is unsupportable — current Claude produces coherent, sometimes distinctive visual design today; the gap is context, not capability
- The slick site used to 'prove' human superiority is exactly what AI produces unassisted — and viewers can't verify it wasn't AI-assisted
- Soft self-interest: it's authority content from a designer whose livelihood the claim defends
- The build-vs-design binary is already stale — the real 2026 split is AI defaults vs human-directed AI output, and the winners use both
The catch
Comment-gating a public URL for a free product is a reach play, and the tabs on screen suggest the person posting is closer to the company than a curious editor. The tool is worth a try, but you are watching a demo, not a review.
How to actually do it
- Skip the comment and go straight to studio.getstanley.ai; the free tier needs no card. Upload one real clip set and export before you judge it.
- Price the alternatives against the $49 Pro tier before committing: Descript Creator is $35/month monthly ($24 annual) with 4K exports and its Underlord agent; Opus Clip Starter is $15/month watermark-free.
- Treat any AI cut as a first draft. Watch the whole export, fix captions on names and numbers, and keep a human pass for anything a client will see.
