Holds up: SmallRig's 5-in-1 portable SSD does back up to SSD, phone and cloud in one pass, but the cloud and compression features live in a Kocard app subscription that is only free for six months

The claim'Shoot. Backup. Share. All in one move. The 5-in-1 Portable SSD Mobile Data Hub gives you triple backup. SSD, phone, and cloud, simultaneously.' Music-only reel showing the magnetic SSD on an iPhone cage and gimbal, a card reader, and the Kocard app running an offload task with Original File, Optimization and File Verification options; end card reads 'ID:6293 5-in-1 Multifunctional SSD'.

This is a real product and the reel shows it doing what the caption says. SmallRig's product page lists the '5-in-1 Multifunctional Portable SSD Mobile Data Hub with Triple Backup (6-Mo. Kocard App Included)': a 1TB magnetic SSD with SD and microSD slots, USB-C at up to 10Gbps, pass-through charging, and the line 'Back up your media to the SSD, phone, and cloud at the same time' with hash verification. Trade press covered the launch at Cine Gear in June 2026 (Newsshooter, CineD, No Film School, 4K Shooters), with pricing reported at $269.99 for 1TB and about $495 for 2TB; B&H lists the 1TB unit (model 6292) at $299.99. The reel's app screens match the Kocard app the device was built around. What the ad does not say out loud is the business model. The cloud upload, compression and verification features run through the Kocard app, and SmallRig values the included six months at '$119.94 worth of premium features,' which works out to roughly $20 a month after the trial. Nothing on the product page states the renewal price or which cloud services are supported. 'Simultaneously' also assumes your phone has the bandwidth to push original files to the cloud while writing to the SSD; the app's Optimization option exists because full originals are slow. It is a solid on-set tool for phone shooters; budget for the app.

What holds up

  • Reel read frame by frame: SmallRig-branded magnetic SSD on a phone cage with filter and gimbal, a card reader dongle, and three Kocard app screens (Task Settings with Gallery 12 files 696.2 MB, Original File vs Optimization 306.8 MB, File Verification, File Upload toggle; a task completing Optimize, Offload, Verify). End card: 'ID:6293 5-in-1 Multifunctional SSD'.
  • smallrig.com/smallrig-multifunctional-portable-ssd.html: product name includes '(6-Mo. Kocard App Included)', 1TB, 'up to 10Gbps', 'Back up your media to the SSD, phone, and cloud at the same time', '$119.94 worth of premium features for backup, compression, and cloud upload', 2-year plus 3-year extended warranty.
  • Newsshooter, Jun 5, 2026 (Cine Gear launch): $269.99 for 1TB and $495 for 2TB, 'three simultaneous copies of your data and confirm file integrity', six-month Kocard membership; B&H lists SmallRig 6292 1TB at $299.99.
  • The URL form smallrig.com/...-6293.html returned 'This product has already been removed', so the 6293 variant shown on the end card may be a bundle or regional SKU; the 1TB base unit is live.

What doesn’t

  • Cloud backup, compression and verification are app features; the included Kocard membership runs six months and the renewal price is not on the product page.
  • 'Simultaneously' to the cloud depends on your phone's upload speed; the app's Optimization mode exists because originals are heavy.
  • First-party ad; no price appears in the reel or caption.

The catch

Real hardware that does the triple-copy trick, aimed at phone and gimbal shooters who need verified offloads on location. The honest price is the SSD plus roughly $20 a month for the Kocard app once the six free months end, and the cloud leg is only as fast as your phone's connection.

How to actually do it

  • If you shoot on a phone and lose footage to full storage, buy the 1TB unit from smallrig.com or B&H (about $270 to $300) and register the six-month Kocard membership the day it arrives.
  • Before the trial ends, check the Kocard renewal price inside the app and decide whether cloud upload is worth it; the SSD and card reader keep working without it.
  • Use Optimization for the cloud copy and Original File for the SSD copy; turn on File Verification so the hash check runs before you format cards.

The product, the triple backup and the app screens are real and match SmallRig's own listing and June 2026 trade coverage. The only soft spot is the unstated subscription behind the cloud features and the missing price, which is normal for a brand ad but worth knowing before you buy.
