PARTLY
Partly true: the free Replica skill exists, but 'a perfect clone of any app every time' and 'never pay for a subscription again' go well past what it can promise
The claimYou can now clone any app with Claude so you never pay for a subscription again. The free Replica skill is 11 skills that give you a perfect clone of any app every time, then fix what users hate so you can sell it.
The skill is real. Replica is an MIT-licensed GitHub project with about 7,800 stars, and its README lists eleven Claude skills that reverse-engineer an app's behavior, rebuild it, test it and read user complaints, just as the video says. The promises are the problem. 'Perfect clone every time' has no test behind it, and the repost's own caption admits AI can't guarantee a perfect working copy when back-end systems, private data or paid services are involved. A paid app also gives you more than screens: hosting, data, support, security and upkeep, all of which become yours. Replica itself draws a line the video skips, saying it rebuilds what an app does and not what it owns, so no copying code, logos, copy or content.
What holds up
- GitHub API on Nov 5, 2026: Jakeschincariol/replica-skill, about 7,800 stars, MIT, created Oct 3, 2026
- We read the README: eleven skills, install by pasting the link into Claude, no signup or API key
- The README says it rebuilds features and flows clean-room style, not code, logos, copy or content
- The repost's own caption says AI can't guarantee a perfect working copy of every app
- We read the full transcript; we did not run the skill against a real app
What doesn’t
- 'Perfect clone every time' is unproven, and the caption contradicts it
- Skipping a subscription means you take on hosting, security, backups and fixes
- Selling a clone raises legal questions even with a clean-room approach
- The skills are free, but you still need a Claude plan to run them
The catch
It can give you a useful starting copy of a simple tool. Your subscription fee turns into your own time and hosting bill, and that trade only pays on simple apps.
How to actually do it
- Pick one simple subscription with no complex back end
- Read the skill's fine print, and don't copy code, branding or content
- Add up hosting and your time before comparing it with the monthly fee
- Run your version alongside the paid app for a month before you cancel
Worth trying on one simple tool you pay for. Don't cancel anything until your version has run for real.
- Effort
- A day or more for a simple app, plus ongoing upkeep
- Cost
- Free skills; you pay for your Claude plan and hosting
- Stack
- Replica skills, Claude, your own hosting
- Confidence
- Medium
