Holds up: Grok Imagine Video 1.5 did add text-to-video, image and voice references and native 1080p on Jul 31, 2026, for SuperGrok Plus and Heavy first; the ad skips the prices and the per-second API bill

TikTok · Oct 2026

The claim'Imagine Video 1.5 launched last month as our best video model yet, with more lifelike motion and sound. Today it goes even further with text-to-video support, image and voice references, and native 1080p. Now available for SuperGrok Plus and Heavy subscribers, rolling out to all tiers over the next few days. Try it on web, the Grok apps, and the Imagine API.' Voiceover: 'Any era, any style, same character, same voice across whatever you can imagine.'

This is a first-party product ad and every feature in it checks out against xAI's own announcements. Grok Imagine Video 1.5 went generally available on June 16, 2026 (API plus Video 1.5 Fast on grok.com/imagine and the iOS and Android apps). On July 31, 2026, xAI published 'Imagine Video 1.5 with References': text-to-video with no starting image, image references to lock faces, products and locations across scenes (up to seven reference images per generation), voice references for a consistent character voice, and native 1080p for both text-to-video and image-to-video. Availability matched the caption: SuperGrok Heavy and SuperGrok Plus in the US on day one, other tiers over the following days, with image references, text-to-video and 1080p live in the API as grok-imagine-video-1.5. The TikTok's own ID timestamps it to about August 2, 2026, so 'last month' is slightly off (the model's launch was June) but the substance is right. What the ad does not say: voice references in the API require contacting sales, the API bills per second of generated video (video 1.5 lists at 8 cents a second, the lite model at 2 cents, and resolution affects the price), and the SuperGrok tier prices are not shown anywhere in the clip. The demo clips (a Roman soldier, a pirate, a podcaster) are the vendor's best outputs with curated references; your first run with a phone photo and a 10-second voice clip will not look like that. Real feature, real rollout, standard ad omissions.

What holds up

  • Reel read frame by frame: title card 'Grok Imagine Video 1.5, now with References', sections 'Single character voice references' and 'Text-to-video', creator credits on sample clips, closing 'Try it now at grok.com/imagine'.
  • x.ai/news 'Imagine Video 1.5 with References' (Jul 31, 2026) verified: text-to-video, image references (up to seven per generation), voice references, native 1080p; SuperGrok Heavy and Plus first in the US, other tiers over the next few days; API live for image refs, text-to-video and 1080p, voice refs via sales.
  • x.ai/news 'Grok Imagine Video 1.5' (Jun 16, 2026) verified: GA on the Imagine API plus Video 1.5 Fast in grok.com/imagine and the apps; docs.x.ai lists grok-imagine-video-1.5 at $0.080 per second and grok-imagine-video-1.5-lite at $0.020 per second, 480p/720p/1080p, price varies with resolution.
  • TikTok video ID decodes to Aug 2, 2026 (UTC), consistent with the Jul 31 announcement; 'last month' for the June launch is loose but close.
  • SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus and Heavy monthly prices could not be fetched this session (grok.com pricing and X Premium help pages blocked); treat tier cost as unverified here.

What doesn’t

  • First-party advertising from xAI's own account; every clip is a curated best case with hand-picked references.
  • No prices in the ad: the top tiers that got day-one access are the expensive ones, and API use is metered per second of output with 1080p costing more.
  • Voice references are not self-serve in the API; the announcement says contact sales.
  • 'Same character, same voice' depends on the quality of your reference images and voice sample; consistency across 'any era, any style' is the pitch, not a guarantee.

The catch

The feature set is exactly what xAI shipped on Jul 31, 2026, so trust the capability. Budget for a SuperGrok tier or metered API time before promising a client a consistent-character video series, and test with your own references, not the ad's.

How to actually do it

  • Open grok.com/imagine on your existing plan and confirm references and 1080p are enabled for your tier before paying for a higher one; the rollout reached all tiers within days of Jul 31.
  • Build a reference kit first: three to seven clean, well-lit images of the character or product and a 15 to 30 second clean voice sample; generate at 720p for drafts and 1080p only for the final.
  • If you need volume or automation, price it from docs.x.ai per second (about 8 cents a second for video 1.5 at launch, less for lite) and cap the key's spend; ask sales only if you need voice references through the API.

xAI did ship text-to-video, image and voice references and native 1080p for Imagine Video 1.5 on Jul 31, 2026, with SuperGrok Plus and Heavy first and the API in parallel. The ad omits tier prices, the per-second API meter and the sales gate on API voice references.
