PARTLY

Partly true: DeepSeek V4.1 Flash really can run on a 12 GB gaming PC with Strata, but at about 4 to 10 words a second, with a small memory window and over 239 GB of disk

YouTube · Nov 2026

The claimYou can run the world's most powerful uncensored AI model, DeepSeek V4.1 Flash Uncensored, on a regular gaming PC with just a 12 GB GPU using a tool called Strata: free, 100% private, zero restrictions.

The core trick is real. Strata is an MIT-licensed open-source project, and its own release notes say it runs DeepSeek V4.1-Flash on one 12 GB graphics card with 46 to 64 GB of RAM by keeping the busiest parts of the model in memory and streaming the rest from an SSD. The uncensored file is a real Hugging Face upload with the refusal behavior edited out. What the video skips is what that feels like to use. Strata's notes put output on 12 GB cards at 4 to 8 tokens a second, with about 5 to 10 in its measured table, and call that usable for chat and slow for long agent runs. The creator keeps the context window at 8K, and he says that means small tasks only. Disk is also bigger than his 150 GB: Strata's docs list 239 to 274 GB for the normal sets, and it runs best on an NVMe drive. He never shows it on a 12 GB PC. He says he doesn't own one, and the demo runs on a rented cloud GPU through his affiliate link, which isn't the fully private local setup in the pitch. His guide also offers a Mac path, while Strata's notes say DeepSeek isn't on the Mac yet. 'World's most powerful' is his phrase, and the video offers no test of it. The only demo is a website header check.

What holds up

  • Strata's GitHub repo is real and MIT licensed, created Sep 24, 2026, and its v0.2.4 notes state one 12 GB card plus 46 to 64 GB of RAM
  • The same notes measure about 5 tokens a second on an RTX 5070 and 8 to 10 on an RTX 3060, and also say output on 12 GB cards is 4 to 8 tokens a second
  • Strata's DeepSeek doc lists 239 to 274 GB of disk for the 2-bit sets, against about 150 GB in the video
  • The Hugging Face file exists under an MIT license, tagged abliteration and uncensored, built on DeepSeek's own model
  • We read the full video transcript: the creator says he has no 12 GB PC and runs the demo on RunPod, at an 8K context window

What doesn’t

  • The demo runs on a rented cloud GPU, not the 12 GB home PC in the headline
  • The RunPod link is an affiliate link, and the guide is on the creator's own site, which also promotes a free website security review offer
  • "Most powerful" is unproven in the video, whose only test is a small header check
  • Removing refusals doesn't make a model smarter, and it removes guardrails, so you own whatever it produces
  • The video and guide suggest a Mac route, but Strata's release notes say DeepSeek isn't on the Mac yet

The catch

It runs, and that's a genuine feat on consumer hardware. But 'runs' here means slow answers and small tasks, with a big download and a half-hour prepare step. It's free of subscription fees, not free of hardware, and it's only private if you actually run it on your own machine rather than a rented cloud GPU.

How to actually do it

  • Check your PC first: a 12 GB graphics card, 46 to 64 GB of RAM and about 300 GB free on an NVMe drive
  • Read Strata's own release notes and DeepSeek doc rather than a video summary, and run its plan check before downloading
  • Try the standard model before any uncensored file, so you can judge the speed for your real work
  • Time a real task on your machine, and compare the result with a hosted model before you commit to the setup

Worth trying if you already own the hardware and want private chat or small code tasks. Don't buy a PC for it, and don't expect it to replace a fast hosted model for long jobs.
