PARTLY
Partly true: the in-app screens show a real-looking one-time Claude Code cloud-session credit ($100 Pro / $250 Max), but 'no hidden catches' is wrong: it only applies to cloud sessions, excludes Projects and Routines, and expires in early November
The claim'Claude just announced they're giving away $250 in free credits and there's no hidden catches.' Open a cloud session on desktop or mobile, 'in your CLI type exactly /claim-credit,' get the confirmation. 'If you're only on a Pro plan you'll just get $100. If you're on the Max plan, like most vibe coders, you'll get the full 250. You've got until October 7th to redeem this and then they expire one month later.'
The screens in the reel look like real Claude product surfaces and they tell a more specific story than the voiceover. The phone shows the Claude app's Code tab with Opus 5.5 selected (a model that shipped September 22, so the recording is recent), a /claim-credit command typed into the task box, and a confirmation card reading '$250 credits for cloud sessions added. Expires 1:29 PM GMT+5:30, November 5. It applies automatically to cloud sessions. Not eligible for Projects and Routines.' A second card titled 'Keep going in the cloud' describes 'a one-time credit for existing Pro and Max subscribers, on top of your plan and outside your usage limits,' with Pro $100 and Max $250. Anthropic's public newsroom, blog, pricing page, Claude Code docs and support center had no page describing this offer when checked on October 2, so it could not be independently confirmed; it reads like an in-product promotion rather than a public announcement, and confidence is capped accordingly. Assuming the screens are genuine, the voiceover gets three things wrong. 'No hidden catches' ignores the catches printed on the card: cloud sessions only (not local CLI work), not Projects, not Routines, existing subscribers only, and a hard expiry. 'Type it in your CLI' is misleading; the demo runs it in the mobile Code tab, and cloud sessions are a specific surface at claude.ai/code and in the app. And 'free' is relative: you need a $20 Pro or $100-plus Max subscription to be eligible. There is no hook in this reel, which is a point in its favor.
What holds up
- Reel read frame by frame: Claude app Code tab with 'Opus 5.5' in the model picker, '/claim-credit' typed, confirmation card '$250 credits for cloud sessions added... Expires... November 5... Not eligible for Projects and Routines,' and a 'Keep going in the cloud' card listing Pro $100 / Max $250 for 'existing Pro and Max subscribers.'
- code.claude.com/docs cloud-sessions page read: cloud sessions are available on Pro, Max and Team plans; Projects and Routines are real, separate cloud surfaces, which matches the exclusions on the card. Opus 5.5 shipped September 22, 2026 per anthropic.com/news, so the recording postdates that.
- anthropic.com/news, claude.com/blog, claude.com/pricing, the Claude Code docs index and support.claude.com search were all checked on Oct 2 and none mention a /claim-credit command, a $100/$250 cloud credit, an October 7 claim deadline or a November expiry; the offer could not be verified outside the reel. WebSearch was unavailable for this batch.
- The October 7 redemption deadline is stated only in the voiceover; the on-screen card shows the expiry (November 5), not the claim cutoff.
What doesn’t
- 'No hidden catches' while the card lists four: cloud sessions only, not Projects or Routines, existing subscribers only, expires November 5.
- Not publicly announced anywhere we could find; treat the amounts and the October 7 deadline as unconfirmed until you see the card in your own account.
- 'In your CLI' is wrong for what is shown; the claim runs in a cloud session on the app or claude.ai/code.
- 'Free' requires a paid Pro or Max subscription.
The catch
If the card appears in your account, claim it; it is extra usage you cannot otherwise buy at that price. Just know it only spends down when you run work in the cloud, so plan a batch of cloud-session tasks before early November instead of expecting your everyday terminal usage to get cheaper.
How to actually do it
- Open claude.ai/code or the Claude app's Code tab on a Pro or Max account and type /claim-credit in a new cloud session; if nothing is offered, the promotion is not on your account and the reel's deadline does not apply to you.
- If the credit lands, check Settings > Usage for the balance and the printed expiry, and remember it will not cover local CLI sessions, Projects or Routines.
- Queue real cloud work for it: push a repo, start a few parallel cloud sessions on bugs or refactors, and spend the balance before the expiry date on the card.
The on-screen confirmation shows a plausible one-time cloud-session credit with real exclusions printed on it, and the surfaces it references exist in Claude Code's docs. Anthropic has not published the offer anywhere we could find, and the 'no hidden catches' line contradicts the card itself.
