HOLDS UP “5 repos generate video on hardware you already own — one on 6GB of VRAM” — the README really says that; bring an overnight TikTok · Aug 17, 2026

The claim5 repos generate video on hardware you already own: ComfyUI (124k stars, shipping daily), FramePack (1-minute 30fps video with a 13B model on 6GB VRAM, “laptop GPUs are fine”), Wan 2.2 (5B version does 720p/24fps on a 4090), LTX-2 (synchronized audio+video, free until your company clears $10M/year), Open-Sora (whole pipeline, weights and training code included).

Every load-bearing claim verifies. ComfyUI is at 128,051 stars and was pushed the same day we checked, so “124k and shipping daily” was true and is now undersold. The 6GB claim is a verbatim README quote — FramePack's own docs say a 1-minute 30fps video with the 13B model needs 6GB minimum and “Laptop GPUs are okay.” LTX-2's Community License is confirmed free for companies under $10M annual revenue, and Wan 2.2 (17,166 stars) and Open-Sora (29,278, weights plus training code) are as described. Notably, the creator claimed capability, not speed — and that's where the honest caveats live. FramePack runs about 2.5 seconds per frame on a desktop 4090, so that 1-minute video is roughly 75 minutes of generation, and the same README says laptop GPUs are 4–8x slower — call it an overnight job on the 6GB machine. And “shipping daily” only truly describes ComfyUI: FramePack's last push was Oct 2025, Open-Sora's was Apr 2026.

What holds up

  • ComfyUI = 128,051 stars, pushed Aug 17 — “124k and shipping daily” was accurate and is now undersold
  • FramePack README verbatim: 1-min 30fps with the 13B model needs 6GB minimum; “Laptop GPUs are okay”
  • LTX-2 Community License confirmed: commercial use free under $10M annual revenue; Wan 2.2 and Open-Sora real and as described

What doesn't

  • Speed is the omission: ~2.5 s/frame on a desktop 4090 makes the 1-minute video ~75 minutes of generation — and laptops are 4–8x slower per the same README
  • FramePack hasn't been pushed since Oct 2025 (~10 months dormant) and Open-Sora since Apr 2026 — “shipping daily” is only true of ComfyUI
  • “Save this before your next renewal” implies these replace a paid subscription today — for most people they replace it slowly, overnight, per clip

The catch

Everything claimed is true because he claimed capability and stayed silent on speed — the 6GB machine really can make the video, the way a rowboat really can cross the Atlantic.

How to actually do it

  • Start with ComfyUI — it's the actively maintained workspace the rest plug into
  • On modest hardware, treat generation as a batch job: queue it, sleep, review in the morning
  • Check pushed_at dates before adopting any repo from a carousel — two of these five have been dormant for close to a year
  • Keep the paid subscription until your local pipeline has actually produced a week of usable output

Verified — the rare video-gen carousel where the boldest claim is a direct README quote; just budget hours, not seconds.
