PARTLY "Claude can build this, but it's never gonna design this" — a fair point wearing an unfair word: 'never' Facebook · Aug 12, 2026

The claim“This boy added 200+ free AI tools, coding agents, automation, SEO all in one place” (comment-gated for the link; 1.1K comments).

The claim isn’t fake — it’s worthless as a secret. AI tool directories with far more than 200 entries exist by the dozen: the big aggregators claim 2,000 to 30,000+ tools each, publicly, no comment required. So ‘one site with 200+ tools’ is trivially true and not special; the creator compiled links, he didn’t build tools. Two catches ride along. First, ‘free’: directory listings are overwhelmingly freemium — free tier plus paid upsell — and reviewers warn the listings run stale on pricing. Second, the industry’s own conflict: major directories have moved to pay-to-be-featured models where rankings reflect submission fees and affiliate value, not quality. The comment gate is the actual product — it harvests your DM for a funnel, delivering a link you could have googled in ten seconds.

What holds up

  • 200+-tool AI directories genuinely exist — several public ones are 10–100× that size
  • A curated list can save real time if it’s maintained
  • Many listed tools do have usable free tiers

What doesn't

  • 'Never' is unsupportable — current Claude produces coherent, sometimes distinctive visual design today; the gap is context, not capability
  • The slick site used to 'prove' human superiority is exactly what AI produces unassisted — and viewers can't verify it wasn't AI-assisted
  • Soft self-interest: it's authority content from a designer whose livelihood the claim defends
  • The build-vs-design binary is already stale — the real 2026 split is AI defaults vs human-directed AI output, and the winners use both

The catch

Nobody needs a DM to reach a public directory. The gate is the business; the list is the bait.

How to actually do it

  • Search ‘AI tools directory’ — the big public aggregators surface instantly, no comment required
  • Verify pricing on the tool’s own site, never the directory listing
  • Pick tools from your bottleneck backward: one tool you use daily beats 200 bookmarked

True but trivial — public directories dwarf it, ‘free’ means freemium, and the comment gate is the real product.
